Hasn't This Been Done Before?
Over the years, there have been several attempts to unify the family and try to create a site we could all call "home", but not everyone has the same interests. Some people like to go the MyFamily site to meet up and exchange information, and then there are the ones that choose to use social networks like Facebook, Twitter, and others to socialize.
I thought to myself that it would be nice if we could get everyone to abandon their other ways and join up on our own social network, but that is not feasible as people have non-related people in their network that they don't want to give up. Besides, who needs another social network? Don't the existing ones occupy enough of our time?
Finally, it occured to me that maybe, just maybe, people might embrace a portal page that links to all of the ways we presently communicate and adds some more. A place that people could set as their "Home Page" on their browser so when they sit down at the computer and want to catch up, they can come here first and then jump off to facebook or somewhere else for that matter.
What Can You Put On A Portal?
A portal page is like going to the mall for all of your internet needs. It has links to all the usual places you go and some links to go places you have never been. This portal site has the following features:
- MyFamily.com
- Facebook Profiles of Family Members
- Human Interest Stories From The Past
- Links to Family Memember Owned Websites and Businesses
